Tracee Ellis Ross Dedicates Her Golden Globe Win to Women of Color
This is Tracee Ellis Ross' first time at the Golden Globes, and it's already off to an amazing start.
TheBlack-ishactress just took home the award for Best Actress in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy, beating out fellow nominees like Sarah Jessica Parker (Divorce) and Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Veep).
Ross is the first black actress to win the award since Debbie Allen won forFamein 1982,Entertainment Weeklypoints out. Whether or not she was aware of her win's historic significance when she took the stage, she did not take her victory lightly. Instead, she dedicated it to women and women of color in a heartfelt speech. She said while accepting her award:
"This is for all of the women, women of color, and colorful people, whose stories, ideas, thoughts are not always considered worthy and valid and important. But I want you to know I see you. Wee see you. It is an honor to be on this show,Black-ish, to continue expanding the way we are seen and known, and to show the magic and the beauty and the sameness of the story and stories that are outside of where the industry usually looks."
The actress' words are especially poignant at this year's ceremony.
