Celine Dion to Perform on TV for the First Time Since Her Husband's Death
Five months after the death of her husband, René Angéli, Celine Dion is ready to grace America's screens once more. E! News reports that Dion will appear on television for the first time since her partner's passing during the Billboard Music Awards on May 22.
The singer, who has won 10 Billboard awards, will get another when she accepts the Billboard Icon Award. The only other artists to have the trophy are Neil Diamond, Stevie Wonder, Prince, and Jennifer Lopez.
After she accepts the prize, she will be singing a cover of the Queen song, "The Show Must Go On." The song is all about having to put on a brave face despite feeling deep pain inside, which is sadly relevant to her life right now. One choice lyric: "Inside my heart is breaking, my make-up may be flaking, but my smile still stays on." It's an emotional roller coaster of a song, and if anyone can live up to the vocal stylings of Freddie Mercury on the track, it's Celine.
"I think at this moment in her life, the song has many meanings and it's an amazing choice," Billboard Awards executive producer Mark Bracco said in a statement.
